Transformed Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Group?
A Growth Group is a fellowship made up of 5-16 people who meet 7 times during our fall series Transformed. A Host and Facilitator lead the gathering (at a home or at church) with DVD teaching, sharing/discussion, and laughter. An average meeting lasts for 1.5 -2 hours including a refreshment time.
How Important is Group Life?
Here at Hillside, we believe Group Life is the primary place where spiritual growth happens. They’re the place where the real ministry of the church takes place as we study God’s Word, while supporting and sharing our lives with one another. We believe that meeting together on a regular basis is time well spent and should be a priority for each adult. Your connection to your church and to others will be much stronger participating in a group.
Is this a lifelong commitment?
We think in seasons here at Hillside. Fall 2015 we are offering a “Fall Transformed Series” that will span 12 weeks (Sept – Nov). We are asking each Group to meet 7 times during this season. At the end of each season, you will have the choice of staying in the same group, trying a new group or even taking a break. Most groups stay together throughout a school year. Groups typically do not meet mid-June through August.
What Will We Study?
This fall season our church wide study will focus on the transforming power of Jesus Christ. Each session will connect with the sermon teaching on Sunday and the personal devotional material found in your Transformed Guide. Our theme verse is: Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
We will look at God’s plan to transform us in seven key areas of our lives: spiritual health, physical health, mental health, emotional health, relational health, financial health, and vocational health. When we learn to think differently we will begin to live differently, and as we learn to think God’s way we will begin to live God’s way.
What Does It Cost?
Few things in life are free and Hillside Groups are no exception. The cost of Group Life is the cost of commitment. Also we strongly suggest you purchase a Transformed Guide for $15 in the church lobby. If married, it’s recommended that each spouse get his/her own guide. This useful tool contains your daily readings, as well as pages to record notes, sermon notes, daily devotions and a place for personal goals.
What About Child Care?
Groups are for adults only (exceptions can be made for nursing newborns). We leave it up to each family to work out their own care, Some-times it works best for families to share a sitter or to swap child care with another family whose Group meets on a different evening. Another idea that has worked for some groups is to have 2-3 sitters for the kids of the group in another level of the house.
How Do I Choose A Group?
When selecting a group, we strongly recommend you choose a group based on its facilitator-host team and the season
of life, rather than its location. Such as young adults, young families, parents of elementary, parents of teens, empty next, intentional inter-generational, senior adults. Over the years, we’ve found that groups do best when members share a common season of life and other interests with their facilitators, hosts, and other group members. Other times location of the group (in proximity to your home) or Sunday AM Groups (due to available childcare) are best.
If you have any questions (especially if you are new to Hillside), please don’t hesitate to call the church, Judy or Pastor Dave will gladly assist you. Keep in mind that it might take two or three groups before you find the perfect fit, but don’t worry, you’ll find it!
How Do I get into a Group?
This Fall there are three ways to sign up for a group – online through our website, at our Sunday services in the lobby, or by calling the church office during the week.
