Hillside’s Mission
Our mission is to honour God by leading people to become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ. We are a growing, innovative church in the Greater Moncton area.
Our Hillside Family
Guests often comment on our family-friendly programs, cutting edge music & multimedia, and the relevant teaching. Our goal is to help people take their next step toward Christ. Since 1974, we have been strategically located in Northwest Moncton and have been endeavoring to meet the spiritual needs of one of the fastest growing communities in New Brunswick in culturally relevant ways.
We strive to be a 21st century church for 21st century people! Today we are a vibrant family of believers who love God, enjoy a strong sense of community and are committed to helping others (churched and unchurched alike) discover the joy of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In short, we want to be the kind of church that makes Jesus smile!
Our Story
God moved the hearts of the people from 3 smaller churches (Hildegarde, Lutes Mountain & Gorge) to amalgamate in 1974. Our Vision began when we strategically situated in a booming area in Northwest Moncton with lots of children, teens, singles, and families. Hillside’s vision is to be a lighthouse church (culturally relevant yet biblically-based) with a premiere family ministry in the region. This means strategically building relationships and investing in the next generation, partnering with children and teens and their parents, and endeavoring to be a safe place for people from all walks of life and religious backgrounds (or no religious background at all!) to begin and then continue in a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ. Regarding other churches, our desire is not to be a church that seeks to compete with the many other churches already established in the area. We’d rather bless and encourage them! Instead, we would put our efforts into reaching those who are not already attending church perhaps because they see the church as boring, irrelevant, hurtful in their past, or they feel unworthy and unlovable for one reason or another.
In February 1974 under the leadership of its founding pastor Phil Stairs, Hillside opened it's doors for the first time. The members of the three founding churches came together believing that God was calling them to do a great work for Him as a regional church in Atlantic Canada. Since that day Hillside has never looked back! Through continued growth, the church has been blessed with several expansion projects over the years. Perhaps most significant was the project, based on our 2020 vision, that resulted in the grand opening of our new modern auditorium in March 2016. Each step of the way, the vision behind expanding our facilities has always been to make room for more. And compelled by a continuing vision, our current focus is to fulfill Vision 2023 – this is seen in our desire to have a greater impact “Beyond our Walls”.
Where Is The Church Going?
Hillside has a history of being a forward looking church. God has been good to us in the past, but we believe our best days are ahead of us. We’re motivated by a desire to be used by God in relevant ways to make an eternal difference in the hearts and lives of the Next Generation while also seeking to be a greater redemptive presence extending more of His love and compassion in the world. We’ve been blessed to be a blessing. And the future of our ministry is as bright as the promises of God!
Why do we do what we do the way we do it? It’s simple: people matter to God… Even if they don’t know it yet. Because of this, we strive to meet them where they’re at. We want to cultivate a welcoming, non-threatening atmosphere with music, messages and ministries that will genuinely help them to take take one step closer to Christ. In addition to this, we seek to be intentional and purposeful in all we do because life is too busy for just another activity. That’s why we don’t believe that church should be boring or predictable. With God’s help, we aim to exceed people’s expectations. Ultimately, we endeavour to honour God by being a safe place where spiritual questions get answered, great friendships are developed and God is worshipped in a place that feels like home.
"The Holy Spirit inspired human authors to write the books of the Bible. Every word of scripture is chosen by God himself. The Bible is God’s love letter to all of humanity and is the final authority in every issue it communicates. It is complete truth, and we can trust it for all matters in this life and eternity."
