Dear Hillside Family,

Wow, what a fabulous week at VBS! Every area of our entire facility was transformed and in use this week to accommodate our largest VBS yet.  Imagine!

Huge thanks to the 120 volunteers who poured into the hearts and lives of 300 children – what a loving spiritual investment in the Next Gen!  We’re TRULY blessed to be part of a church that from its earliest day until now (over 41 years later) continues to be so passionate about children’s ministry and providing a premiere family ministry in the region. What a legacy of kingdom faithfulness!

Looking ahead to this Sunday, we’re expecting a full house. All I can say is that our team has planned a great service and you don’t want to miss it! You will be inspired as a sea of joyful kids take the stage to share some of their favorite VBS songs with us. Also, I can’t wait to share some key updates about our fall season and to share an encouraging message entitled “How God Changes Us”. Feeling stuck and needing some insight on how to change? If so, I believe this Sunday’s message could be a game changer for you.

In writing this email, I have a few asks…

Ask #1 – I’m asking some of you to make room for more on this VBS Sunday by kindly giving up your good seat (as needed) so we can accommodate many guests and parents who will be attending with their families for the first time. As gracious hosts, I’m simply asking that you be aware of any seating needs when you arrive and, if needed, that some of you could save the better seats upstairs or go to the Youth Café downstairs so more of our guests could sit in the auditorium where their kids will be singing. By the way, aren’t you glad that we’re building a new auditorium? Praise God that next year we’ll have even greater opportunities with VBS in our new expanded facility – exciting!

Ask #2 – I’m asking (actually, warmly inviting) any of our international individuals or families among us to join me for a brief information meeting this Sunday at 12:30pm. This brief 30 minute info session is to share about some of our special plans for Homecoming Sunday which takes place on Sept. 13th. Did you know that God is blessing and we now have more than a dozen countries represented in our Hillside family? How neat is that! In light of this, we’re planning a special international flavor to our fall launch. So, if you’re one of our internationals please reply directly to this email and let me know if you’re able to attend this brief info session this Sunday, Aug 23rd, right after the 11am service. We’ll be meeting downstairs in The Study from 12:30-1pm. I’d love to meet you and also get your valuable feedback and suggestions as we continue to plan this VERY exciting day.

Ask #3 – I’m asking that anyone who wants to learn more about our plans for Growth Groups this fall to attend an orientation session with Pastor Dave this week. Simply put, your fall experience won’t be complete without leveraging the life-changing content you’ll by uniquely receiving by participating in a group. We believe in small groups and, to help be a part of our vision for 40 adult Growth Groups this fall, Pastor Dave is hosting two sessions to help you get the inside scoop on Group Life.
Sessions to choose from are this Monday, Aug 24th, 6:30pm in the Board Room and
Wednesday, Aug 26th, 8:00 in Board Room.
Each info session is an hour. Interested in learning more? Click HERE and
sign up for one of these sessions.

Ok, that’s enough updates and asks for now. I’m heading out to be part of the parking team as cars will be quickly filling our parking lots (upper and lower) with parents arriving to pick up their kids from VBS. Be sure to join us on Sunday as we climb to new heights on Everest Sunday. I love being your pastor and thank God for your continued faithfulness. Exciting days ahead!

Blessings,

Pastor Jerry

PS  A timely reminder to parents of VBS kids from our VBS teamWe would love for all of you to join us this coming Sunday at the 9:00am or 11:00am services here at Hillside. The VBS kids will be singing a couple of the songs they learned on stage and there will be a highlight video from the week. We will also be having a Summit Celebration (Everest Party) for the kids during the services downstairs in the gym and in Kidzone. The kids shouldwear their VBS shirts.
